Swim & Survival

Swim & Survival

There are 3 milestones within our Swim & Survival program. While these milestones are met in succession, we base “graduation” on each child’s individual level of skill mastery, rather than age. As each child is different, so is their comfortability in the water and the rate at which they grasp each skill. While we encourage students to strive for their best, we also work with them at their specific level of readiness.

Swim & Survival Program

Our Swim & Survival program offers infants a safe introduction to the water. Here we use techniques which will prepare your child for basic survival skills.

Skills Learned:

  • Floating
  • Breath Control
  • Simple Submersion
  • Holding the side of the pool
  • Recovery

At the end of each class, parents will be given feedback on progress, along with homework for tub time so that you can continue working on these skills at home with your child.

Levels Include:
Tadpole Level 1 | Tadpole Level 2 | Tadpole Level 3

Tadpole Level 1

Children at this level will build on their basic survival skills to further their motor skills in the water.

Skills Learned:

  • Increased breath control
  • Free-floating
  • Rolling from face-down to back-float position
  • Development of kicking skills
  • Jump in and roll to back unassisted
  • Changing direction
  • Pulling up onto a ledge
  • Introduction to arm movement
  • Front glide (face in the water)

Structure

These are always one on one, 15-minute classes, once per week until ready for next level, Tadpole 2

Tadpole Level 2

With more ability to move with purpose in the water, children at this level will continue to improve their techniques, while gaining independence. Learning to swim unaided is a huge milestone here.

Skills Learned:

  • Unaided swimming
  • Breath control
  • Improved kicking
  • Jumping and returning to the wall
  • Pulling themselves out of the pool

Structure

These classes are one on one, 15-minute sessions, once per week until ready for the next level.

Tadpole Level 3

When children master the skills in the prior milestone, showing physical readiness and maturity for the next skill level, they move to our next program. This is our most advanced toddler class and is our introduction to stroke mechanics for young swimmers.

Skills Learned:

  • Develop improved floating and gliding for proper body position and independence
  • Work on increased propulsion with more kicking, arm movements and independent swimming
  • Teaching children to understand boundaries, along with love and respect for the water
  • Introduction to stroke development with increased endurance
  • Building a strong kick
  • Adding arm strokes
  • Modified breathing skills

Structure

These classes are one to one, 15-minute sessions, once per week until ready for the next level.
